HIGH POINT, N.C. — State Rep. Marcus Brandon announced Friday he will run for mayor in High Point.

Brandon, a Democrat, has represented the 60th district since January 2011.

Brandon confirmed the news in a Facebook post.

“After a lot of prayer – It’s official, I am running for High Point Mayor. While I know the needs of High Point are great, our assets and people are greater. We are a top 10 city and we have to start acting like one, as your Mayor we will do exactly that. I would be honored to have your support.”

Also on Friday, it was revealed that Mayor Bernita Sims and City Councilman Foster Douglas will not run for re-election.
