Thieves caught after ‘butt-dialing’ 911 while stealing truck in Pilot Mountain

PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Three young men were arrested after one apparently butt-dialed 911 while stealing a truck, according to the Pilot Mountain News.

According to Pilot Mountain Police Chief Darryl Bottoms, the trio attempted to steal a maintenance truck from East Surry High School. When one of them sat down in the truck they accidentally butt-dialed 911 and the dispatcher was able to hear everything they were saying.

They were intercepted on West Main Street not far from the high school.

While a complete arrest report has not been finalized, the three were identified as Nathan Mills, Quentin Thompson and Dylan Beck; all local residents between the ages of 18 and early 20s. The three were charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny of a motor vehicle.

“We’ll take them any way we can get them,” Bottoms added of the suspects.
