CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers spent Tuesday searching for the driver they said hit an 8-year-old boy on his bike and then kept driving.

WSOC-TV reported that the hit-and-run happened Monday around 6 p.m. at Idlebrooke Drive and Middlebury Place.

“My whole family is angry, because my grandson, 8 years old, is laying in the hospital for no reason,” said the boy’s grandmother, who asked to be referred to as Ms. Moore.

She and other family members said Justis Retamar was taken to the hospital with fractured ribs, a concussion, and a broken pelvis.

They said he was in a lot of pain and doctors were watching him closely to make sure there’s no internal bleeding from the crash.

“When I finally got down there and saw him lying in the street not moving I said, ‘Oh my God.’ I really thought he was gone,” said Justis’ grandfather, Evert Moore.

Sad and sick that someone can hit a child, or anyone and just keep driving. Hope they catch the scum who did this and hope the child makes a speedy recovery.
