Pilot killed in small plane crash near NC airport

The Cessna 182Q went down in a field. (WTVD)

HALIFAX, N.C. — A single-engine plane crashed near the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport Friday, killing the pilot.

The FAA said the pilot reported engine problems with the Cessna 182Q around 10 a.m. and was diverting to Halifax when the aircraft went down.

The Cessna was in route to the Hanover County Municipal Airport in Richmond, Va. when it crashed.

FAA investigations are looking into the accident.

The pilot has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
