BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A man was arrested after police say he shot two teens in Burlington Thursday night.

Officers responded to a home on Perry Circle around 10:21 p.m. where they found a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say the shooting spurred from a physical fight between the 16-year-old and a 15-year-old. The 15-year-old left the home and returned with 22-year-old Tyson Lamar Goins.

Goins produced a shotgun and shot at the door of the home, striking both theĀ 15-year-old and 16-year-old who were still inside, police say.

The 16-year-old was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 15-year-old was taken to the hospital by his parents.

Goins and the 15-year-old were later located and arrested by police.

Goins, of Burlington, is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is in the Alamance County Jail under a $233,050 bond.

The 15-year-old was taken to the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Facility pending his appearance in Juvenile Court.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or Alamance County Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100.

With several assault convictions under his belt, Mr. Goins needs to be serving some time this time. I doubt he will be convicted of what they charged him with though. Rather than Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill (AWDWITK), they should have charged him with Discharging A Firearm into an Occupied Property and 2 counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury (AWDWISI). While the second charge is less severe than what they charged him with, it is a more appropriate charge. I doubt that he could see behind the door to shoot the two kids with one shot… which is the way this report describes it. You have to have intent to shoot the victims to convict of that offense.

It’s sad that these children out here fighting and carrying on. It all stem from these little so called gangs. They need to be focusing on getting an education and getting out of this city to build a better life. But I guess they do what they care raised from or see.
