MONROE, N.C. — A Union County church has put up a sign asking thieves to return a boat that was stolen from the property.

WSOC-TV reported that the Mill Creek Baptist Church in Monroe said they had borrowed the 14-foot aluminum boat from a friend to use for display on its lawn.

The church had set up an elaborate display for a Sail to Galilee theme for its vacation bible school when the boat was taken.

Church officials said someone stole the boat from a well-lit area Tuesday.

A sign now reads “Thou shall not steal. Please return our boat” on one side and “Please return our boat it was borrowed” on the other side.

Officials said they are willing to forgive and forget if the boat is returned.

A police report has been filed in the case.
