HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — A woman was cited after she caused a wreck by driving the wrong way on Interstate 85 Thursday morning.

WTVD reported that 911 operators started getting calls from drivers just after 6:30 a.m. about a vehicle that went north down the southbound exit ramp at Highway 86 onto I-85.

At least one driver who swerved to miss the car ended up crashing into an embankment and flipping over at the 167 mile marker.

The unidentified driver is said to be in good condition at a local hospital.

Troopers were able to pull the woman over just short of the Orange County-Durham County line.

She was later identified as 80-year-old Rosie Miller of Hurdle Mills,

Miller underwent a medical exam and was cleared after appearing disoriented following the incident.

Troopers cited her for traveling in the wrong direction.

Authorities said it is the second wrong way crash in recent months. Back in May, a woman under the influence of alcohol drove for several miles in the wrong direction before colliding with another vehicle. Both drivers survived the crash.

This is one reason that they should start road testing people when they reach a certain age. I think it should be no later than 65 and their license should only be good for 2 years, at which time they must be tested again. Anyone can make a bad decision, but it seems that it is usually an elderly person making those bad decisions when there aren’t other influences involved such as alcohol or drugs.

I am 61 and I can tell you!! I drive better than 3/4 of the younger ones!! I dont text, eat, drink, watch t.v. and computer screens while I drive. I dont pass on the right side when I could pass on the left. I slow down or pull to second lane if a HP or any vehicle is on the side of the highway. And last I down RUBBER NECK when there is an accident on the Highway and cause another wreck or traffic slow ups!! Thanks

My elderly mother first stopped driving on highways, then she stopped driving at night, then at 84 she stopped driving at all. She was still in good health and her mind was as sharp as a tack. She felt her response time was not good enough any more. She said she did not want to cause an accident. To bad all elderly do not think this way.

I know it would be expensive to do it but I still think they should install one way spikes (the severe tire damage kind) on ramps to prevent people from entering in the wrong direction. There have been way too many elderly and impaired drivers who have either died or caused death doing this type of thing.

Discrimination 100%! If I did this and caused an accident, I would have been locked up!!!! Who wants to join me filing a discrimination suite?

Hey “True Champion” you obviously didn’t become a “champion” at spelling or grammar. So you might want to go back to school.

I know Mrs Rosie. She’s a kind and gentle lady. She might not need to be driving, but she is no criminal! Ya’ll should be ashamed of these heartless and cruel comments.

We should all be grateful that no one was killed, it is blessing that all are still alive
may God bless those who are making theses cruel and harsh comments, I hope this never happens to one of your relatives.
