BRADENTON, Fla. -- A Florida man fed up with complaints about the outside of his home responded by painting an American flag on his home.

Brent Greer and his nine children live at the home in Bradenton, Florida, according to WFLA.

Greer said he was inspired to paint the house red, white and blue after a code enforcement officer asked him to remove an old Christmas tree from the front balcony of his home. He said he then received a list of cosmetic issues that needed to be addressed to avoid a $250 a day fine.

Greer said the paint scheme is to remind everyone he lives in America.

"I painted it to remind the city and all that live here that this is America. This is a free country. This is my home. This is not a shrine to Riverview Boulevard," Greer told WFLA.

Greer has a hearing with code enforcement on June 17.
