GRAND FORKS, ND — Graduation events are often celebrated with family members. But for some military family members, big events are often missed.

And other times, there’s a surprise.

Taylor Crafton, who was graduating from Grand Forks Central High School on Sunday, knew her father would not be in attendance, according to WDAZ.

Taylor’s father, Chris, is a member of the Air Force and had been deployed to Cuba months prior.

To keep Taylor’s father there in spirit, the family created a cardboard cutout of Chris, which went to prom with Taylor on Sunday and for graduation.

As it turns out, the cardboard cutout was not needed.
