GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Guilford County Commissioners got their first look at the proposed 2014-2015 budget tonight and the numbers set up another possible conflict with the board of education.

County Manager Marty Lawing is proposing a no tax increase budget of $568.9 million, an increase of almost two percent from the present spending plan.

Of that amount, the county manager suggests spending more than $183.13 million on Guilford County Schools.

For its part, the school board has requested $207 million, $24 million more than the proposed county budget.

In the past the Guilford County Commissioners and the Guilford County Schools have clashed, even in the courts, over the amount of money the county spends on education.

A public hearing on the proposed county budget is scheduled for June 5.
