MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A 6-year-old boy suffered minor injuries after officials said strong winds and rain caused a tree to fall on the family’s Mooresville home Saturday.

The family told WSOC-TV that Devonte Graves was playing video games on his bed when a large branch crashed through his bedroom ceiling.

He was struck in the shoulder by the branch, but was not seriously injured, according to authorites.

“He has a large scratch on his left shoulder,” said De’Empress Graves, who is the boy’s aunt. “I was home when it happened and it sounded like a bomb went off. We’re just thankful he isn’t seriously hurt.”

The tree also fell on a family member’s car. It’s unclear how much damage the house sustained.
