Five high schoolers sickened by cough medicine at Rowan Co. school

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Five high school students were rushed to the hospital Thursday after they became sick by cough medicine while at school.

According to WBTV, the students at Henderson Independent High School (HIHS) became sick after taking over the counter cold medications.

Students were treated and released at the local hospital. They are all expected to be OK.

According to district officials, parents were notified, the district¹s Code of Conduct is being implemented and the staff is cooperating with law enforcement on an investigation.

Parents were notified via Connect-ED message Thursday night.

“Parents, please discuss the dangers of taking prescribed and non-prescribed medications recklessly. If you suspect that your son or daughter is misusing medications, please contact their doctor immediately.”
