RALEIGH, N.C. — N.C. State campus police are questioning a “person of interest” in connection to a student who officials said was groped on campus.

Campus police told WTVD-TV that the suspect allegedly walked up to a female student from behind and touched her in a sexual way.

Authorities said it happened just before 7 a.m. Friday near Dabney Hall. The suspect then reportedly fled on foot. There was no weapon displayed, used or implied.

After circulating surveillance pictures, police identified a person of interest as 36-year-old Deearl Creech.

Creech was taken into custody in downtown Raleigh near the convention center after a CAT bus driver alerted authorities he was on the bus. Creech was being interviewed. He has not been charged at this time.

A search of state documents shows Creech has a criminal record for drug possession, assault on a female, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
