Suspects identified in Winston-Salem apartment complex shooting

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police have identified two suspects in connection with a shooting at the Millbrook Apartments on Monday night.

Police were called to 2865 Millbrook Drive around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say the victim was involved in a fight with two other men when a handgun went off. The suspects fled the scene.

Following an investigation, Dwane Dereece Stokes Jr., 21, and Kendrick Maurice Smith, 20, were identified as the suspects.

Stokes is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, assault by pointing a gun and larceny of a firearm.

Smith is charged with felony possession of stolen property.

The victim is continuing to recover from their injuries.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Stokes or Smith is asked to call Crimestoppers at 336-727-2800.

For investigative reasons, no photographs of Stokes or Smith have been released at this time.
