ELON, N.C. — A Western Alamance High School student was struck by a vehicle near the school on Wednesday afternoon.

According to State Trooper Phillip Thornton, the incident occurred around 3:20 p.m.

The victim was identified as 16-year-old Magan McIntyre. She was crossing Gerringer Mill Road to meet her mother, who was parked nearby, when she was hit by a mid-sized SUV.

The girl sustained non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at Moses Cone Hospital. She was alert and talkative when Thornton left her and her family at the hospital Wednesday.

The driver of the SUV won’t face criminal charges, Thornton said.

“She just darted out into the road, really,” Thornton said. “There was no crosswalk or anything there. The driver was understandably upset and concerned for the girl.”

Alamance County EMS, Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department, N.C. Highway Patrol and the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident.
