East Surry High placed on lockdown after report of weapon on campus; no weapons found

PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. — East Surry High School was was placed on lockdown shortly before noon Wednesday due to a report of a student in possession of a firearm.

The Surry County Sheriff’s Office, Pilot Mountain Police Department and State Highway Patrol immediately responded to assist in the lockdown and searched the campus.

After an exhaustive search, no weapons were found and the school returned to a normal schedule at 2 p.m.

All students were given the opportunity to eat lunch under a modified schedule with increased supervision.
