A tornado in Wayne County, one of several that hit North Carolina on Friday.

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. – Authorities said a 94-year-old North Carolina woman is recovering after a tornado picked up her mobile home and threw it across a field.

WCTI12.com reported that family members say Essie Floyd was recovering in the hospital Saturday and is expected to be okay.

Jerell Wilson said his grandmother was in bed at her Beaufort County home Friday when she saw a tornado warning on TV.

“She said, ‘I’m not going to worry about it. I’m going to go to sleep,’” Wilson said.

Wilson said the tornado struck the home moments later, picking it up and throwing it across a nearby field.

Floyd was reportedly found by emergency workers outside the home lying in a field with cuts across her body and a broken wrist.

Family and friends spent Saturday cleaning up debris in the area. Wilson said his grandmother wants to return to the lot, where she has lived for more than 50 years.
