UPDATE: Tornado Warning for Rowan, Davie and Iredell counties expires

A Tornado Warning issued for Rowan, Davie and Iredell counties expired at 4 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m.,radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Statesville moving east at 35 mph. Weather spotters are reporting several downed trees near Statesville.

A tornado watch is in effect today.

The National Weather Service issued an alert that says thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and some storms may be severe.

The worst weather is expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the biggest threats coming from damaging winds and large hail.

The watch is in effect until 9 p.m.
