GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Four people were charged Tuesday after police discovered a drug operation at a BBQ restaurant in Gaston County.

Smokey’s is a carry-out only restaurant with curbside service for customers. But WSOC reported that undercover officers said they learned it wasn’t just food the restaurant was selling.

The drug conspiracy investigation began in Nov. 2013.

Undercover buybacks started in November and investigators said they bought more than 30 pounds of marijuana at the restaurant, worth about $137,000.

Three people were arrested while at work Tuesday at Smokey’s Barbeque on Lower Dallas Highway in Dallas. Police are still looking for the fourth person.

Restaurant owner Donnie Allen Wooten, restaurant cook Michael Gene Huffman and employees Tausha Mixon and Jessica Plummer all face drug-related charges.
