FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — A man has died after police say he was struck by a car driven by his wife in a church parking lot on Sunday.

William Russell Roe Jr., 57, died after he was struck by a 2009 Mercury driven by his wife, Kathryn Roe, at Village Baptist Church.

Investigators believe Roe had exited the vehicle and was attempting to walk into the church when the driver placed the vehicle in reverse, unaware of Roe’s location.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. Sunday on the 900 block of South McPherson Church Road.

Roe was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition, where he died from his injuries.
