ASU student seriously injured after fall while rappelling in mountains

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — An Appalachian State University student sustained serious injuries after authorities said he fell while rappelling in Avery County on Saturday afternoon.

WSOC-TV reported that the 21-year-old student fell 70 feet and was taken to a hospital.

The student is from south Charlotte. There were reportedly six other students with him at the time of the fall.
