WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police say a woman who was almost raped by an unidentified man Tuesday night was saved by her boyfriend.

Police are still looking for the suspect who attempted to rape the woman in her Winston-Salem apartment.

The victim told police she was walking into her apartment at Crystal Towers on Sixth Street when an unidentified man forced his way through the door behind her.

She said the man forced her into the bedroom and tried to rape her.

The victim’s boyfriend walked into the apartment and the suspect fled.

Below is the response from the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem:

The Housing Authority of Winston-Salem has received notification of a possible attempted rape occurring around 9:00 pm yesterday evening at the Crystal Towers apartment building.

Since then, our staff members have been working with the Winston-Salem Police Department and our security services providers (Lankford Security) to investigate the matter further. Fortunately, they were all able to respond quickly to the complaint in order to investigate the matter and secure the building.

The safety of our tenants is very important to us. We have policies and procedures in place and partner with the local Police Department to help ensure a safe living environment. We also ask for anyone who may have helpful information regarding this matter to notify the Police Department as soon as possible.
