SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A trucker in California experienced both tragedy and a financial windfall last weekend, winning $650,000 in the lottery one day after his wife died, according to KCRA.

Timothy McDaniel, 55, of Marysville, Calif., bought a winning $1 Scratcher at a market on Sunday. He said his wife died of a heart attack on Saturday.

“I think she just kind of sent me this money so I could continue taking care of the (grand) kids,” McDaniel said in a written statement from the California Lottery.

McDaniel elected to get cash, and will receive a lump sum of $375,000. He said he hopes to purchase a house and a new truck, and then put whatever is left in the bank.
