HIGH POINT, N.C. — With several in the Piedmont still clearing debris from the last ice storm, many are turning to a non-traditional tool to help get rid of fallen trees and limbs — Craigslist.

About three days after the storm on March 6, Asif Wahid placed an ad offering free firewood at his home on South Emily Court in High Point.

"It's a win-win,” Wahid said. “It helps you to clean up, but they get the firewood for free. All they have to do is come and get it."

He's not alone.

After the ice storm, dozens of ads popped up on the website all with the same offer -- as much wood as you can handle for free.

Some ads even offer to deliver the wood to your front door.

Other ads like the one posted by Chris Messick, who lives in Thomasville, aren't saying come and get it, but instead come and drop it off.

"I've been letting people haul the logs in, and I take the brush also," Messick said.

He uses the wood to heat his home and for his wood-burning stove. So far, he's gotten 10 to 15 answers to his ad.

"It's been coming in pretty regular," Messick said.

A hands-off approach both homeowners say has saved them a lot of time and sweat.

"I think it would be best if someone could take them and benefit from them," Wahid said. "It's all yours."
