RICHMOND, Texas — A military father home from an 11-month tour in Afghanistan gave his four children a heartwarming surprise during the family’s first Little League game of the season.

ABC News reported, that Capt. Ed Maxa, 31, shocked his children Thursday by emerging onto the field after hiding in the dugout during his son’s game.

The coach of the team had gathered Maxa’s family together at home place to give a speech about the hard work and dedication of their father and husband. The children had no idea they were about to see their dad.

“It’s amazing. They’re so happy,” Tara Maxa, Ed’s wife, said of their kids finally having their father home. “This morning they were so excited to get up. And they couldn’t go to bed last night. There’s been such a void since he’s been gone, but now my kids are so much happier, and I’m happier.”
