LEXINGTON, N.C. – The Davidson County Health Department is reporting its third case of rabies this year after officials said a rabid skunk was found in Lexington.

Officials said the skunk was attacked and killed by a dog after being found Thursday in the Finch Park area.

The dog was not properly vaccinated and has been destroyed, according to the Davidson County Health Department.

Officials advise the public not to handle their pets with their bare hands after it has had contact with a wild animal.
