11-year-old Caitlyn Virts and her father, Timothy Virts, who is now in custody.

BALTIMORE, Md. — Authorities said a Maryland girl who disappeared after her mother was found dead last week has been found and is safe.

The Amber Alert for 11-year-old Caitlyn Virts has been cancelled and her father, Timothy Virts, has been taken into custody.

The father and daughter were found at a hotel in Florence, South Carolina late Friday, according to police.

Police said they believe Timothy Virts abducted his daughter from her Dundalk, Md. home on Thursday morning.

The suspect’s ex-wife, Bobbie Jo Cortez, was found stabbed to death inside the home.

Baltimore County police issued an arrest warrant for Timothy Virts for the murder of his ex-wife.

Police said two adults and two children were also inside the house at the time of the killing.

It’s unclear why the suspect allegedly took his daughter.

The FBI has listed Timothy Virts on its “most wanted” list.

The Amber Alert had expanded to three states: Maryland, West Virginia and North Carolina.

Thankful this child has been found. Maybe I watch too much TV, but a national article said that the mothers boyfriend was in prison for sexual assault. I can’t help but wonder if anything ties in?

Sad situation all around, its very bad for these poor children, getting caught up in the parents issues, I wonder if the mother was preventing the dad from seeing his daughter, that led to the killing.

The story needs to be more investigated to let it hang there. I can see if the father is upset if his daughter got touched by mothers boyfriend. But to kill the mother probably did more damage to the little girl.. She was there when mother was killed. Father kidnapped her. She’s scared out of her living mind. Poor thing. Hope she gets therapy.

I’m so happy she was found alive! I worried that this wasn’t going to end well because of her mother being murdered. I just hope some justice gets served for her & her family. Poor cold :(.
