Meagan Simmons

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — An “attractive convict” is suing a background check website, saying they used her mugshot photo for advertising purposes.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that Meagan Simmons, 28, of Zephyrhills, Fl., claims that the website InstantCheckmate.com did not compensate her or even ask her permission to use the photo.

Simmons’ attorney, Matthew Crist, said InstantCheckmate.com is using her image for financial gain. The photo is used with the caption, “Sometimes the cute ones aren’t that innocent.”

Simmons said the exposure has disturbed her peace of mind, caused her mental anguish and invades her privacy.

The mugshot was taken on July 25, 2010 in the Hillsborough jail after Simmons was arrested on a DUI charge.

Before being used on InstantCheckmate.com, the mugshot had already been used on numerous websites and internet memes, branding her an “attractive convict.”

“GUILTY of taking my breath away,” reads one meme. Others read, “This is what a model inmate looks like” and “Arrested for breaking and entering your heart.”

Wow! Good luck! As I read this on Channel 8’s website, I can her image on another site saying “Do you know your neighbors?” Glad I don’t have a mugshot anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The way to avoid this “anguish” is to not act a fool and get arrested in the first place.

News flash…mug shots are public record and can be used by anyone for anything.

That’s a very disturbing thing to say. No wonder women in this world isn’t safe when you have men thinking like that. We are women, we have feelings just like men. We don’t appreciate men thinking that they can just come up and do whatever they want.

Whether it is a man or woman the principle is the same- don’t do dumb things and get arrested and you wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place. Once you get arrested the mugshot is public record and can be shared or posted anywhere. You have no legal right to fight this, regardless of whether you are a man or woman.

I know what you are saying. My comment was to a guy that his post got deleted. I do agree with what you were saying. The man that I commented to said a very disturbing thought about the woman that he would do.

Ah, I see, sorry, I didn’t mean to be confrontational, I misunderstood what you meant. Have a great weekend!

what no one seems to realize is this person used her Attractive Convict internet fame to promote herself, getting countless opportunities(calling herself Msdemeanor, aka Attractive Convict), until a couple weeks ago when the names just “disappeared” from her social media. Now, when the hype about her is cooling, she sues them for “mental anguish”? Please. Just a stunt for cash so she still doesnt have to work. I know who she is, what she is about. So I know what i am talking about.

I agree with Will Grant. If she had not been breaking the law and gotten herself arrested, then she wouldn’t have a mugshot. Arrest records and mugshots are public information and can be seen by anyone so I don’t feel that she should be compensated at all for this. Don’t act stupid, live an upstanding, law abiding life and you wouldn’t have to worry about people seeing your mugshot and be embarrassed by it. She screwed up, don’t go crying wolf now and expect someone to feel sorry for you! She could have killed innocent people driving under the influence!
