GREENSBORO, N.C. — Passengers planning to depart from the Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) should call their airlines before leaving home today to be sure that their flights have not been cancelled, according to airport officials.

“The airport is open, and has remained open throughout this severe weather event,” said Kevin Baker, the airport’s executive director. “But airlines have cancelled most flights because of the winter storm’s system wide impacts to the East Coast.”

Thousands of flights have been cancelled since Wednesday at airports across the Southeast, according to a news release.

PTI remains open, but the top level of the parking deck is closed due to snow and ice. All passengers wishing to park at the airport should enter the parking deck at the lower level.

Airport roadways are in fairly good shape, airport officials said.

However portions of the exit ramp from Bryan Boulevard into the airport are still snow covered due to some equipment problems NCDOT contractors are experiencing.

Airport crews are now assisting NCDOT in clearing the interchange. Passengers should use extreme caution and drive carefully.

“We want people to be safe as they enter and exit the airport,” Baker said.
