4 young people shot on Rocky Mount basketball court

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WTVD) — Police in Rocky Mount are investigating a shooting that injured four youngsters ages 12-19.

It happened around 6 p.m. Monday on a basketball court near the 1100 block of West Raleigh Boulevard.

The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Michael Lyons, 19-year-old Jakavis Whaley, 12-year-old Nyreek Horne and 13-year-old Antwon Jefferson.

All of the victims are residents of Rocky Mount.

Three were treated and released from Nash General Hospital, but Horne was transferred to Vidant Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Police say the incident started at a nearby convenience store, escalated and ended in the shooting on the court.

Police say they’re looking for one suspect who ran to what is being described as a light blue in color small SUV type vehicle which was parked nearby.
