GREENSBORO, N.C. — At approximately 7 p.m., a car hit a Duke Energy power pole near South Eugene Street that knocked out power to a portion of downtown, shutting down power to businesses and disrupting traffic.

Greensboro police say the driver who hit the pole is reported to have driven away, but the street lights and traffic signals are still out along Lee Street, South Elm Street and South Eugene Street.

Duke Energy crews are working to restore power but right now, but Lee Street between Fulton and South Elm streets is closed currently.
