NEW BERN, N.C. — Authorities say two U.S. Marines from New York were killed in a traffic accident in Craven County this week.

The Sun Journal of New Bern reported that the N.C. Highway Patrol identified the victims as Skyler D. Way of Gouverneur, N.Y., and Nicholas S. Buscarnera of Mastic Beach, N.Y. Both men were 19.

It was reported that the men were assigned to 2nd Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.

U.S. Forest Service Officer Steve Barrette said he found the vehicle upside down and partially submerged in a canal just off Catfish Lake Road, which has a history of fatal crashes.

A family of five was killed on the road in April 2011 when their vehicle flipped into the roadside canal.
