WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police have determined that a Winston-Salem woman found dead in a residence Friday was a homicide victim and have arrested a suspect.

Sanford Emanuel Snider, 51, of Winston-Salem, was charged in the shooting death of Janet Sheppard Petty, 54.

Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies responded to a mobile home at 5327 Phelps Drive just after 12 p.m. Friday to assist Forsyth County EMS.

Investigators said Petty was found dead at the residence and Snider was found unconscious and unresponsive.

Snider was Petty’s boyfriend and the two had lived together for a number of years, police said.

Snider is incarcerated in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center with no bond allowed and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 23.
