ASHEBORO —  The N.C. Zoo will be closed to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 7 due to the extreme cold.

The zoo will be closed in an effort to protect guests, staff and animals from expected dangerously low temperatures.

Zoo staff will be asked to report to work as usual, but employees who normally work outdoors will be asked to assist with any weather-related problems with animal and plant collections.

The park is expected to resume regular winter operations of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

For information on daily operational status, the public can call the zoo’s toll-free number at 1-800-488-0444 or visit the website at
