Man loses weight eating McDonald’s-only diet

COLO, IOWA -- A teacher in Colo, Iowa decided to eat only at McDonald’s for 90 days to see what it would do to his health.

The result turned out to be a good lesson for him and his students.

John Cisna laid out a theory for three of his students at Colo-Nesco High School last fall.

Cisna said he could eat any food at McDonald's and not gain weight -- as long as he’s smart for the rest of the day with what he balances it out with.

Cisna said he ate McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 90 straight days.

But he had strict daily nutritional limitations of 2,000 calories and tried to stay close to the recommended dietary allowances for nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, fat calories and cholesterol.

Cisna said he approached the owner of the local McDonald’s franchise and the owner was so interested he provided the 90 days of meals at no charge.

Cisna said his students used McDonald’s online nutritional information to construct daily meals for their teacher, making sure to follow the nutritional limitations he set.

“A typical breakfast would be two egg white delights, a bowl of their maple oatmeal and a 1 percent milk,” Cisna said.

He said a salad for lunch would be followed by a more traditional value meal at dinner.

“This isn't something where you say ‘well he went to McDonalds and he only had the salads.’ No, I had the Big Macs, the quarter pounders with cheese. I had sundaes, I had ice cream cones,” Cisna said.

During the experiment, Cisna said he also started walking 45 minutes a day.

By the 90th day, Cisna said he lost 37 pounds and his cholesterol dropped from 249 to 170.

Cisna said the moral of this lesson is not to eat more McDonald’s, but to pay attention to your daily nutrition and what you eat.

“We all have choices,” Cisna said. “It's not McDonald's that makes us fat. It's our choices.”

His arteries are probably fine, actually. It said his cholesterol dropped from 249 to 170. His blood pressure might be higher from the sodium, but when you lose weight and begin to exercise, that usually gets better, too.

BTW– If and when I need a dr I will go to one. Regardless to what I eat or drink at some point I am going to have to see one unless I am killed by accident or murder. Whether I am 20 or 80 it will happen. And the same applies for the rest of you. So I don’t need any self-righteous hypocrite Yankees such as *BloomBurger* from New York City telling me what I should drink or how much, as I still own a little of myself though the government appears to own most.

As for me affecting your insurance by what I eat or drink. No matter how you slice it INSURANCE has NEVER been a right and never will be. It is a choice as to what insurance you want. Be sure and join the most self-righteous insurance plan you can find and you will get the lowest rates regardless to what others do.

But wait we now have ObammieCare! You know the *Gommit* insurance where the government lumps everyone together and sets ridiculously high prices in order to appear to make insurance a right. In which case you can look forward in the future to seeing much arguing and debating over the *gommit* limiting virtually any activity or personal choice in order to lower insurance premiums, ALL for the benefit of the public, saving them money.

What ya’ll yanks have seen from ObammieCare is NOTHING to what you will see in the future as the gommit begins to limit the foods you eat, the fluids you drink, the sports you participate in and the general lifestyle you live, ALL in order to save society money in that ever increasing spiraling healthcare costs….. Hehe, pretty soon you’ll be drinking nothing but water and eating rye bread, that being all the gommit can afford to let you have because you’re killing everyone else with high insurance costs by your previous bad habits! But at least you’ll be eating more than Gen Sherman left the women and children as he looted, raped and burned his way across the South; all in hopes we would have nationalized healthcare one day! So, you got what you so badly wanted. Now live with it!

      Shall I go on? I could…..

Michael-with all due respect your rant makes you sound like a very angry, uniformed person who either is extremely obese, frustrated, and depressed or on your way to having severe health issues. You need to eat healthy, and you need to have regular check-ups with a doctor.Don’t keep shooting yourself in the foot or lashing out at other people as a defense mechanism for your personal pain.

    • Cat

He may have lost weight, but he still looks like the Pillsbury dough boy. No muscle tone, saggy, pallid skin, and morbidly obese abdomen. Gross. He shouldn’t be encouraging his students to eat nutritionally depleted processed foods. His food choice has obviously done nothing to enhance his external appearance and internal health.

      • miguel

Body builders have been counting their macros for years, this is common practice within the fitness world.

Obviously he will not continue to eat mcdonalds. He did this to prove a point.

You do not need to eat bland boring food and have an eating disorder in order to lose weight.

His students no longer have to feel guilty about having a big mac meal for lunch as long as it fits into their daily caloric goal.

I think it’s a great experiment debunking what you see all over the internet and on tv about 20 small meals a day and portion size the size of a third graders fist.

I have a feeling many of the negative comments are due to “clean eaters” that took years to lose 10 lbs a little upset that this man lost 37 in 90 days.

Why Fox8 why? If world war 3 started we wouldn’t hear a word from you. Can’t you come up with real news? Fake it maybe?

It’s simply because they have an agenda to fulfill. The regular reporters may not it. The anchors mite not know it. Even the producers may not understand it. But the owners and chief execs knows it and they direct those under them what direction they want to take the news, what is news-worthy in their eyes. I know newspaper editors in the past who admitted to being directed to such topics. And it is ALL for a greater purpose. Yet they are glad some people don’t give a you know what, in order that they can more easily spread the disinformation their agenda requires of them. The final means are still being served unless you protest…. Not to them as they are already committed, but protest to the public, the average common man, in order that we come to give enuff *A* that such garbage be stopped in efforts against their greater agenda.

The reason this man lost 37 pounds is because his eating habits were so out of whack before that even a McDonald’s diet was an initial temporary improvement. There’s a lot more to healthy eating than just counting calories. The quality of the food we eat is paramount to good health in the long run. If he continues eating like this at McDonald’s, the results will be disastrous, and he should be ashamed of himself as a schoolteacher for bringing students into his “game plan”.

Ever since “Jarrod” the Subway guy became a multimillionaire claiming to lose weight on nothing more than Subway sandwiches, many people are trying to bait the big fast food companies into helping them get rich also by claiming their product promotes good health and weight loss.

This teacher gave himself away when he clearly admitted to eating”anything and everything” at Mc Donald’s that he wanted, but within calorie limits. If he were going to a variety of fast food chains and choosing their more health friendly salads, grilled lean meats, and whole grain items, he would have a little more credibility.

I’m at a loss to what your point is. By merely controlling portions, spreading calories reasonably throughout the day, and even being remotely close to proper protein/fat/carb ratios, one can stay fairly healthy, even by EXCLUSIVELY eating only fast food. What don’t you get about that?

  • Mike Lamb

First I won’t dignify you by calling you *nurse*.
I did indeed make a rant, and I ranted a big one. I intended too!
The reason is simple, yet you cannot phantom it. It was simply the hypocrisy of *self-righteous* people. It is WRONG to criticize others for what YOU and others believe. No amount of statistics or surveys or anything else justifies restricting, limiting or condemning others Rights concerning their lifestyle as long as it doesn’t directly cause you physical harm, or harm through intimidation. Yet it is EXACTLY because of these *self-righteous* people that we have a myriad of laws today that makes one a criminal or a *bad* person, whom must be penalized or even jailed in order to make them conform to the will of a *Humanist* society.

Where you and such people make us all slaves and bind society to *your* moral self-righteous codes is by the fact you deny Natural Law, the Laws of Human Nature and the Rights accorded man from these Natural and Human Natural Laws. Accordingly this makes you a *Humanist* of which many political ideologies can be associated, none of which are moral according to Christian values. And it was these Christian morals and values that birthed Western Civilization.

We see in my previous writing you took them and my rant somewhat personally. You did because it affected you enuff to respond to it. This only means you find me and my beliefs an affront and in opposition to your own. In lack of any better response in disproving what I wrote you had NO choice but to personally attack me, *ad hominem* style. Meaning if you can’t kill the message, kill the messenger. This is nothing more than typical Marxist Humanist education and beliefs at work on your behalf. And it is contrary to Liberty and Freedom, Natural Law.

This is why I added Gen Sherman and “Bloomburger* in my rant. This is typical thinking and political ideology of yankees, not all but the vast majority of them, and it is the reason the whole country is in the shape it is in today. (And we KNOW where *Yankees* originated; right?) People have simply rejected the basis of Natural Law and those morals that came from it which established Western Civilization and specifically the old USA. This is also why today Western Civilization is dead and a new civilization is emerging.

BTW- To make things simpler for you, I am a *Classical Historian of Western Civilization*. My credentials exceeds phds, and I have NO problem when debating them. They ALWAYS fail, and I’ve debated dozens of them.

Paul, if that works for you, I’m glad for you and hope you always have the ability to freely make those choices with no stigma, rules or fees attached. I am 100% for you being the person you want to be, and if others disagrees, tuff! It would be them who has the problems and not you… I hope you feel the same way about me, including me doing the things you mite not like for yourself.

“The reason this man lost 37 pounds is because his eating habits were so out of whack before that even a McDonald’s diet was an initial temporary improvement…”

The bottom line is, it is an improvement, temporary or not. Of which *temporary* remains to be seen. Therefore it is NOT conclusive, therefore it cannot be considered or construed into constructing a strawman for continued argument against those foods. (It’s his choice to begin with. Let’s continue to let all people exercise their Rights to eat as they want, regardless. If not, then the government will be dictating to you and fining you according to the standards they determine best for you.)

The media hype over McDonald’s food is now laid to rest. Get this: people actually do have choices and they are smart enough to make their own. You can do worse by eating at home with junkfood snacks, sweets, and food that has so many additives that it is not healthy. Smart choices over the long run is what matters. Eat healthy most of the time and enjoy your food. If you stress out every time you eat healthy then you are going to have a heart attack from the stress. I had a dietary intolerence and had to be on a special diet for 7 years. I hated eating. I stressed out about what I could not eat. I started eating a forbidden food every week to make myself feel better. At least I had some kind of control over my life. Now I don’t have to eat that diet anymore but I insist that eating should be social and enjoyed. Even unhealthy food once a day is better than having a stroke about eating it. Enjoy people!

  • forestjames3

You simply cannot compare the two. Morgan Spurlock from Super Size Me did NOT do any exercise. Whereas, it says in the report that John Cisna began walking for 45 minutes a day. I use to eat a lot of junk food but I was also very active, and so I was slim. When I stopped being active but kept eating junk, I got fat. Hardly rocket science. I bet if John Cisna had done the same experiment but with no exercise, he would have had the same cardio and weight results as Morgan Spurlock of weight gain and high blood pressure.

There is nothing wrong with eating at fastfood but eating all your meals from here at full meals, then maybe that is when the problem starts. Losing weight is not about where you eat but your food options. Even if you opt to eat at home but refused to eat fruits and vegetables, then you are far from losing weight. Eat fruits and vegetables plus ample amount of water wherever you are equals successful weight loss.
