GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- Thousands of power outages were reported across several counties in the Piedmont Friday morning.

Officials say the outages are due to high winds and trees falling on power lines.

The power was out on Wendover Avenue in Greensboro for a short time this morning because of a tree branch on a power line.

Duke Energy crews worked quickly to remove that branch and the power is restored in most of that area.

Several power outages were reported in Winston-Salem overnight due to fallen trees. The power in that area has almost been fully restored.

The gusty winds are expected to last through the morning, but should diminish by the afternoon.
