Suspect arrested after police chase in Guilford County, Davidson County

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A suspect was arrested on Saturday following a police chase that started in Guilford County and ended when the suspect crashed in Davidson County.

Guilford County deputies began the vehicle pursuit on I-85 near Highway 62 around 11:44 p.m. Saturday. According to a news release, deputies said the suspect was speeding and driving recklessly.

The pursuit left Guilford County and continued on Highway 8 in Lexington. At Highway 8, the suspect’s vehicle collided with a deputy’s vehicle causing minor damage to the vehicle’s front bumper.

The pursuit continued into Southmont where a deputy performed the “Precision Immobilization Technique” in an attempt to end the chase. The suspect’s vehicle left the road, collided with a telephone pole and struck a tree. The suspect sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Ronnie Lavar Sanders, of 206 Kinley Court, Greensboro, was taken into custody by deputies. He is charged with felony speed to elude arrest, speeding, careless and reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a felon and other charges.  Deputies also seized methamphetamine, cocaine, cash and a pistol during the arrest.

Two deputy vehicles sustained minor damage during the chase.
