Condition of volunteer firefighter shot in head has ‘worsened drastically’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Rowan County volunteer firefighter injured after being shot in the head during a break-in on Dec. 2 is still fighting for his life.

According to the “Praying for Marco” Facebook page, Marcus Kauffman’s condition has “worsened drastically” in the past 24 hours.

The family’s update goes on to say that a CT scan on Tuesday night showed new damage to his brain.

“This morning the doctors expressed that they have done everything they can and that it may be time to let go,” the update read.

Kauffman had been a a volunteer firefighter in Salisbury.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
