SC man accused of dangling dog from balcony
GREENVILLE, S.C. — A 23-year-old man was charged after a photo of a tethered dog dangling from a balcony was posted online.
According to WYFF, Tyler Smith has been charged with a violation of a city animal care ordinance, which is a misdemeanor.
Smith could face $1,000 in fines and/or 30 days in jail.
The dog was not harmed in the incident.
The photo, which was posted and circulated via Facebook, shows the tethered dog dangling off the balcony of a brick condo unit at McBee Station.
Heather Vincelette, a Facebook user who shared the photo, said she also posted it on the Spartanburg Animal Services page, Greenville Animal Services page and the Humane Society page, with the question, “is this legal?”
Neighbors told WYFF that they usually see the dog, named Max, being walked by his owners.
Max belongs to Smith’s parents, according to neighbors.
Greenville police said numerous people contacted them through Facebook about the picture.
