JACKSON, Mo. -- A Missouri man stopped for a dog on the side of the road, which resulted in saving a woman's life.

According to KFVS, Jefferson Fox was driving through Jackson when he saw a dog along the side of the road.

He thought he would stop to help the dog, but he found the dog was already helping his owner.

"I noticed a black and white border collie mix that had a leash attached to it, running back and forth on the edge of the highway,” said Fox.

A lot of drivers wouldn't stop if they saw a dog along the side of the road, but Fox did.

Fox parked his car and tried to catch the dog, but she wouldn't let him. He followed the collie along the road, and around the side of a house.

"When the dog turned the corner and went in the garage and I followed it in, there was another dog on the same red leash, and it was curled up next to the elderly woman on the floor," said Fox.

That’s where Fox found the dog’s elderly owner shaking from the cold.

The woman in her 70s told him she’d fallen around 5:30 a.m. that morning, and when he found her it was already 9:30 a.m.

Fox called 911, and emergency crews took her to the hospital.

Now both dogs, Cici and Honey, are staying with a neighbor.

And Fox said there’s a lesson for everyone.

"You should always pay attention to what's going on around you, because if I hadn't noticed the dog I would have never noticed the lady," said Fox.

The woman is expected to recover.
