GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Giovanni’s Italian Steakhouse has been around for more than 30 years, but the restaurant owner says business has dropped 30 percent because of construction on High Point Road.

Last year, the North Carolina Department of Transportation broke ground on a $40.1 million project to widen a four mile stretch of High Point Road.

Now, Giovanni’s customers have to drive through the construction zone to get to the parking lot.

“It drives me nuts,” said Robert Holden, restaurant owner and chef. “I defend it every time. I say we're open, we're fine, there's nothing wrong with the drive here.”

In the meantime, Giovanni’s is offering big discounts on the menu and on web sites, like Groupon.

The drive will be lined with construction tape and barrels for a while. Road work is expected to continue through November 2015.
