Cold rain continues, icy spots possible

Cold rain continues through Monday and some icy spots could appear on the roads in the Piedmont.

But the icing should be minor and mainly confined to elevated surfaces like overpasses, bridges, power lines and decks.

Closings and delays

Several flight delays and cancellations are being reported out of local airports. They include Washington, D.C., Dallas-Ft. Worth, Chicago flights out of PTI; Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Dallas-Ft. Worth out of RDU; and Atlanta, Minneapolis, Dallas-Ft. Worth out of CLT.

Temperatures already began to rise shortly before sunrise and will continue to climb to near 50 degrees for Monday afternoon.

But rain will remain in the forecast. More rain is expected for the first half of Tuesday with afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

A full day of sun is expected on Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Thursday will be sunny and chilly with highs in the low 40s.

A little warmer weather is expected on Friday with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 40s.

Tuesday morning lows will be in the 40s. But for the rest of the week, morning temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s.
