Single-car wreck knocks down utility pole in Greensboro, closes part of Wendover Ave.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A serious car wreck Friday morning has resulted in downed power lines on Wendover Avenue in Greensboro.

Police responded to the single-car accident around 4:30 a.m. on West Wendover Avenue between Grecade Street and Idlewood Drive.

Matthew Gareth Davis, 28, of Greensboro, was driving a 2002 Acura coupe above the posted speed limit when he ran off the roadway to the right colliding with a utility pole.

Davis critical injuries and was transported to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment.

Three lanes of West Wendover Avenue from Hill Street and Grecade Street are now open, but traffic is backed up.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during this time.
