GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro Gobbler has become a Thanksgiving tradition for the last 12 years – runners and walkers from all over North Carolina participate in the holiday 5K.

This year, there was a surprise during the awards ceremony, a first for the event.

At the end of the race, when officials called them on stage for an award, Chris Edwards proposed to his girlfriend of five years, Tiffany Johnson.

The Greensboro couple has known each other since the fourth grade. Johnson said it was perfect.

“The thought that he put in it, everything he went through to do it just made it that much more special,” she said.
