GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Residents of the Sunset Hills community in Greensboro set up their annual lighted Christmas balls.

While many people were out shopping for the Black Friday “doorbuster deals,” several Sunset Hills residents were stringing their trees with the traditional Christmas balls.

Neighbor Ron Mack will suspend 18 balls from his trees this year. He said although it is fun, it is a lot of work too.

"Some guy just rode by here a little while ago and said he drove up here from Randleman just to see people setting them up," Mack said. “That's a great sense of community."

Jeff Hayes has been decorating for 11 years and said about $600 was raised already amongst community members for the Greensboro Urban Ministry.

“It’s a way of giving back and enjoying how you do it," Hayes said. "To hear their comments and to see how much they like it kind of helps with Christmas spirit for me."

The "Running of the Balls'' 5K course  and fundraiser for the Second Harvest Food Bank is set for December 14th at 6pm.
