19-year-old killed, 4 injured in Gaston Co. crash

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities said one man was killed and four others injured after a car hit a gas prices sign Friday morning in Belmont.

WBTV reported that 19-year-old Patrick Boyd from Clover, S.C., was killed in the wreck, which happened in front of Jim’s Bait and Grocery at 1901 Southpoint Road.

Authorities said the four passengers were all hospitalized, one of which had serious injuries.

Highway Patrol said they were told by a passenger that the group had been shopping before the crash and the driver may have fallen asleep.
