Man arrested in connection with Albemarle coin shop owner’s slaying

Officials arrested Ryan Efird, 45, in connection with the Oct. 31 slaying.

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — An arrest has been made in the killing of a coin shop owner in Albemarle.

According to WSOC, detectives have been searching for weeks for a man responsible for shooting and killing Eldridge Roger Gibson, 81, during a robbery at the B&G Coins Shop in Albemarle.

Officials confirmed they had arrested Ryan Efird, 45, in connection with the Oct. 31 slaying.

Prison records show that Efrid was recently released from prison. He has been charged with first-degree murder in this case, investigators said.

Police said the shooter took off with the victim’s white Ford F-150.

When police arrived, they found well-known businessman and former city employee Gibson on the floor. Gibson was rushed to Stanly Regional Hospital, where he died.
