GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Nearly 200 people attended the community meeting "Arts for Economic Development" showcasing art projects throughout downtown and at Piedmont Triad International Airport on Monday.

Action Greensboro Executive Director April Harris said the forum will give an update on the Steven Tanger Center for Performing Arts and will brainstorm ideas for the design of The Carolyn and Maurice LeBauer City Park.

Harris said the LeBauer park will feature more public art to compliment the performing arts center.

"When we think about public art especially in outdoor spaces it really helps gives us an identity in the community and reflect the values that we have," Harris said. "The timing for LeBauer Park roughly parallels the timing for the construction of the performing arts center so we'll hopefully see some elements of that emerging in terms of the art there."

PTI Airport Director Kevin Baker said the art development plan ideas around the airport will also be discussed to appeal to visiting passengers with visual art both along the airport roadways and inside the terminal.

Harris said the art project plans are preliminary and a budget has yet to be determined.
