BOONVILLE, N.C. — A Mocksville couple faces charges of financial theft after authorities said they stole a debit card from a family member.

Timothy James Medcalf, 55, and his wife Cynthia Renee Medcalf, 42, were charged Tuesday by the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said they have each been charged with one count of felony financial card theft and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

The suspects are accused of stealing and using a debit card from a family member they were taking care of.

The incident was reported to the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office out of a home in Boonville.

Deputies did not say how much was stolen from the victim’s debit card, but described it as a “substantial amount of money.” The victim also said another bank account had been used without permission.

The suspects were placed in the Yadkin County Detention Center, both under a $7,500 secured bond. Both have court planned for Tuesday.
