Neighbor charged with stabbing, killing 76-year-old Winston-Salem woman

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police have arrested a woman in connection with the stabbing death of a 76-year-old woman last week.

Cathy Gwenzell Burrell, 51, has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of 76-year-old Beatrice Caldwell Rorie.

Police said Burrell was Rorie's neighbor.

On Nov. 4, police responded to 1501 Longview Drive in reference to an assault. When officers arrived, they found Rorie who appeared to have suffered from blunt-force trauma.

The Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the case was a homicide as Rorie died as the result of a fatal stab wound.

Burrell's first court date is set for Dec. 5.

Police did not provide a photograph of the suspect.
